The UAIO (the Oenology section of the UAI) was founded in 1977 by Daniel Lamare. UAI is the acronym of Union Athlétique Intergadz’Arts, an athletics club created in 1892 by young athletes from the first arrondissement of Paris, some of them coming from the famous engineering school of “Arts et Métiers”. Daniel, himself an engineer from the Arts et Métiers, was also the president of the athletics club. He trained many athletes at the international level.

As a great lover of Bordeaux wines, he decided in 1977 to formalize the creation of a club on the theme of wine whose vocation would be the tasting and incidentally the distribution of Bordeaux wines. In 1982, Daniel realized that it was necessary to set up a systematic tasting methodology based on the blind taste and the implementation of a series of tastings by appellation. This methodology was applied for the first time during the tasting campaign of the 1964 vintage. The principles have remained unchanged since then.

Daniel left us in 2006, just after the 1985 vintage campaign and we honor his memory by continuing the activity of the tasting club with the same passion and pleasure.
