> The Map of the Appellations

The best wines of Bordeaux are spread over a few flagship Appellations.

On the right bank (of the Dordogne / Gironde), we find the Appellations Pomerol and Saint-Emilion. They are characterized by a significant use of the Merlot grapes (80%), associated with Cabernet Franc (10 to 15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5 to 10%).

On the left bank and to the south of Bordeaux, the Appellations Graves, including Pessac-Léognan.

On the left bank and north of Bordeaux, going north, the Appellations Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe.

We group together under the name of « Médoc » the Appellations Haut-médoc, Médoc, Listrac-médoc and Moulis, which ultimately surround the four flagship Appellations of northern Bordeaux.

Wines from the left bank can make extensive use of the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes (up to 85%) supplemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

The super grands crus are spread over five flagship Appellations :

They benefit not only from the best terroirs, but also from the best winemaking techniques. The five super grands crus on the left bank are also called the first growth.

“The Pauillac are the most full-bodied and full-bodied wines from the left bank, the slowness of which is matched only by the splendor of the sap and the bouquet that they express as they age. ”
